You agree to the terms of service below, and the Terms of Use for Substack, the technology provider.
Publisher Terms of Service
Inside The Misunderstood Mind
Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC
Effective Date: August 30, 2026
These Publisher Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your subscription to and interaction with Inside The Misunderstood Mind (the “Publication”), published by Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) through the Substack platform.
By subscribing to, purchasing a paid subscription to, accessing subscriber-only benefits of, or participating in interactive features offered by the Publication, you agree to these Terms.
Substack separately operates the platform through which the Publication is provided. Your use of the Substack platform is also subject to Substack’s own terms, policies, and agreements.
1. Educational Purpose
The articles, newsletters, posts, podcasts, videos, discussions, live sessions, comments, chats, downloadable materials, and other content made available through the Publication (“Content”) are provided for educational and informational purposes.
The Publication addresses topics that may include neurodivergence, autism, ADHD, relationships, personality traits and pathology, toxic or abusive relationship dynamics, mental health, personal development, and related subjects.
Content is intended to provide education, perspective, and general information. It is not individualized professional advice and should not be treated as such.
2. No Professional Relationship
Subscribing to the Publication, communicating with Jodi Carlton through the Publication, participating in comments or chats, attending subscriber events or live sessions, or otherwise interacting with Publication Content does not establish a therapist-client, counselor-client, coach-client, consultant-client, doctor-patient, attorney-client, or other professional relationship with Jodi Carlton or Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC.
Jodi Carlton’s education, professional experience, and expertise inform the Content, but Publication Content is not psychotherapy, counseling, diagnosis, treatment, individualized coaching, medical advice, or legal advice.
If you need individualized mental health, medical, legal, financial, safety, or other professional assistance, you should consult an appropriately qualified professional familiar with your individual circumstances.
If you are experiencing an emergency or believe you or another person may be in immediate danger, contact appropriate emergency services or crisis resources in your location.
3. No Diagnosis or Individual Assessment
Discussion of autism, ADHD, neurodivergence, narcissistic traits, personality disorders, abusive behavior, or other psychological or relationship patterns is educational in nature.
Publication Content should not be used by itself to diagnose yourself or another person or to determine whether a particular person has a mental health, developmental, personality, or other clinical diagnosis.
Examples, descriptions, case illustrations, and discussions of behavioral patterns are intended to facilitate understanding and should be considered in context.
4. Intellectual Property
Unless otherwise indicated, the Publication and its original Content are owned by or licensed to Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC and are protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual-property laws.
This includes, where applicable, articles, newsletters, written materials, graphics, illustrations, photographs, videos, audio recordings, presentations, educational frameworks, downloadable materials, subscriber resources, live-session materials, and other original Publication Content.
Your subscription grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable right to access and use Content made available to your subscription level for your own personal, noncommercial use.
Except where expressly permitted by law or authorized by us in writing, you may not reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, license, upload, publicly display, publicly perform, modify, create derivative works from, or commercially exploit Publication Content.
You may share links to publicly available Publication posts and may quote brief portions of publicly available Content when permitted by applicable copyright law and accompanied by appropriate attribution.
Paid, subscriber-only, founding-member, Impact Team, or otherwise restricted Content may not be copied, forwarded, reposted, distributed, or shared for the purpose of providing access to individuals who are not entitled to receive it.
5. Subscriptions
The Publication may offer free, paid, founding, Impact Team, or other subscription levels.
The content, benefits, pricing, and availability associated with each subscription level will be described through the Publication or applicable subscription page. Benefits and subscription offerings may change over time as the Publication evolves.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, subscriptions and subscriber benefits are personal to the subscriber and may not be transferred, resold, or shared.
Substack and its payment providers administer subscription billing and payment processing. Subscription renewals, cancellations, payment methods, and other platform-based billing functions are also subject to applicable Substack terms and processes.
6. Paid Subscription Cancellations and Refunds
You may cancel a paid subscription using the subscription-management tools provided through Substack.
Cancellation ordinarily prevents future renewal charges but does not necessarily result in a refund of amounts already paid.
Except where required by applicable law, required or processed under Substack’s applicable refund policies, or expressly stated otherwise in connection with a particular offer, subscription payments are nonrefundable once charged.
Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC may nevertheless issue refunds at its discretion where permitted by Substack and its payment processor.
Any refund voluntarily provided by Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC outside a legal or platform requirement does not create an obligation to provide similar refunds in the future.
7. Founding, Impact Team, and Special Membership Benefits
The Publication may offer founding memberships, Impact Team memberships, or other enhanced subscription levels that include benefits beyond ordinary paid subscription access.
Benefits may include, for example, signed books or other physical items, private live sessions, subscriber chats, special discussions, early or additional Content, opportunities to participate in Publication or book-related activities, or other benefits offered from time to time.
The benefits associated with a particular membership level will be described when that membership is offered. Additional benefits may be added from time to time.
Unless otherwise expressly stated:
benefits have no cash value and are not transferable or redeemable for cash;
physical benefits may require the subscriber to provide accurate shipping information;
dates, formats, platforms, or other logistical details for events and benefits may change when reasonably necessary;
comparable benefits may be substituted if a particular benefit becomes unavailable or impracticable to provide; and
failure to participate in or redeem an available benefit does not entitle the subscriber to a refund.
Specific terms disclosed when a membership or benefit is offered will supplement these Terms.
8. Live Sessions and Events
Subscriber live sessions, discussions, Q&As, or similar events are educational and community experiences and are not private coaching, counseling, therapy, consultation, or individualized professional services.
Participation by multiple subscribers means that we cannot guarantee the confidentiality of information voluntarily shared during a group event.
Participants should use discretion when discussing personal experiences and should not disclose information they do not want other participants to know.
We may establish additional participation guidelines for particular events and may moderate or remove participants when reasonably necessary to protect the event, its participants, or the Company.
If a session will be recorded, participants will be informed when appropriate before or at the beginning of the session.
9. Comments, Chats, and Community Conduct
The Publication may provide opportunities to interact with Jodi Carlton and other subscribers through comments, chats, discussions, Notes, live events, or other community features.
You retain ownership of original content you submit. By posting content through Publication community features, you grant us the rights reasonably necessary to display, host, reproduce, and moderate that content in connection with operating the Publication and its community features.
When participating, you agree not to:
harass, threaten, intimidate, stalk, or abuse another person;
engage in discriminatory, hateful, defamatory, obscene, or unlawful conduct;
disclose another person’s private or identifying information without appropriate permission;
impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity;
post spam, unauthorized advertising, malicious links, or harmful software;
infringe another person’s copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights;
use community spaces to solicit clients, customers, or business without permission;
disrupt discussions or repeatedly engage in conduct that materially interferes with other members’ ability to participate; or
use Publication community features for unlawful purposes.
We reserve the right to moderate, hide, or remove content and to restrict or terminate participation in Publication community features when we reasonably determine that conduct violates these Terms, applicable community guidelines, Substack policies, or materially interferes with the safety or functioning of the community.
10. Privacy in Community Spaces
Comments, chats, live events, and other subscriber interactions should not be assumed to be confidential unless we expressly state otherwise.
Although we may establish expectations regarding respectful treatment of information shared by community members, Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC cannot control what other participants remember, record, repeat, screenshot, or share.
Please consider this before disclosing personal, sensitive, confidential, medical, relationship, employment, legal, or identifying information.
Our handling of personal information is further described in the Inside The Misunderstood Mind Publisher Privacy Policy.
11. Referral Programs, Promotions, and Rewards
The Publication may offer referral programs, promotions, giveaways, subscriber rewards, or similar programs.
Eligibility requirements and available rewards may be described separately in connection with a particular program.
Unless otherwise stated, referral rewards:
have no cash value;
may not be transferred, sold, or exchanged;
may be limited in quantity or availability;
may be changed or discontinued when reasonably necessary; and
may be withheld or revoked in cases of fraud, manipulation, duplicate or fraudulent accounts, self-referrals where prohibited, or other abuse of the program.
We may establish additional terms for individual promotions or referral programs.
12. Third-Party Platforms, Links, and Services
The Publication is hosted on Substack, which is a third-party platform not controlled by Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC.
We are not responsible for interruptions, outages, technical failures, account restrictions, feature changes, payment-processing issues, data loss, or other acts or omissions attributable to Substack or another third-party provider.
The Publication may also contain links to websites, retailers, social-media platforms, products, services, or resources operated by third parties. Your use of those services is governed by the applicable third party’s own terms and policies.
The inclusion of a link or reference does not necessarily constitute endorsement of all content, products, claims, or practices of the third party.
13. Affiliate Links
Some Publication Content may contain affiliate links.
If you purchase a product or service through an affiliate link, Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC may receive a commission or other compensation at no additional cost to you.
The existence of an affiliate relationship does not change your responsibility to independently evaluate whether a product or service is appropriate for your needs.
14. Accuracy and Availability of Content
We make reasonable efforts to provide thoughtful, accurate, and useful information. However, knowledge, research, terminology, professional standards, laws, and best practices may change over time.
We do not warrant that every item of Content will always be complete, current, error-free, or applicable to every individual situation.
We may update, correct, modify, remove, archive, or discontinue Content or Publication features at any time.
15. No Guarantee of Outcomes
People and relationships are complex, and individual circumstances vary.
Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC does not guarantee that reading, watching, listening to, participating in, or applying Publication Content will produce any particular personal, professional, psychological, relationship, financial, legal, or other outcome.
You are responsible for evaluating information in light of your own circumstances and for the decisions and actions you take based on that information.
16. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Publication and Content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC disclaims warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, reliability, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or suitability of the Publication or Content for any individual circumstance.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some exclusions may not apply to you.
17. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC and its owners, employees, contractors, representatives, and agents will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from or relating to your access to, use of, reliance upon, or inability to use the Publication or its Content.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
18. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Jodi Carlton, MEd, LLC and its owners, employees, contractors, representatives, and agents from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and reasonable expenses arising from your violation of these Terms, unlawful use of the Publication, infringement of another person’s rights, or content you submit through Publication community features.
19. Suspension or Termination of Access
We reserve the right to restrict, suspend, or terminate access to Publication community features, subscriber benefits, or other services under our control when reasonably necessary because of a violation of these Terms, abuse, fraud, harassment, threats, unlawful conduct, or conduct that materially interferes with the Publication or its community.
Any action involving a Substack account itself may also be subject to Substack’s authority and policies.
Termination or restriction for violation of these Terms does not automatically create a right to a refund except where required by applicable law or Substack’s applicable policies.
20. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time as the Publication, subscription offerings, or applicable requirements change.
Updated Terms will be posted or otherwise made available through the Publication with a revised effective date. Material changes may also be communicated in another appropriate manner.
Your continued use of the Publication after revised Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.
21. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable law provides otherwise.
If any provision of these Terms is determined to be unlawful, invalid, or unenforceable, that provision will be severed or limited to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
